TREE GROWTH REGULATOR
There is an old adage ‘THE RIGHT TREE IN THE RIGHT SPOT’.
Trees are great assets to most homeowner properties. However, they can become a liability when competing for space around your home. In the situation below, this homeowner was attached to their trees and wanted to preserve the trees without forgoing home safety. Ulrich Tree Care was able to treat the trees with a growth-regulating product (Paclobutrazol) which kept the trees from excessive growth but encourages healthy foliage and drought resistance.

The trees on this property were incorporated into the design of the house, but had started growing too close the the structure and foundation.

The setting was unique, but the trees were becoming a liability to the roof and driveway.

Interesting design

To apply the Tree Growth Regulator, we first dug a trench around the base of the tree exposing the root flare.

The soil was place in a berm around the trunk in order to create a 'moat' to hold the Growth Regulator product

We measured the trunk(s) of the tree, determined the proper labeled dosage for its size, mixed it with the required amount of water, and poured it into the moat/trench.

A nice, healthy Oak on the back addition of the house...but growing too close.

Digging the trench and making the moat.

It is a moderately laborious process.

Measure, mix, apply. We waited for the product to absorb into the surrounding soil (to later be absorbed by the tree roots), then backfilled the trench with the excavated soil.

The growth regulator will slow the expansion of the trunk and root system, keeping it from causing any further damage to the foundation of the house.
